Support

Write to support@boringlava.com. A person reads every message.

It helps to include your phone model, the app version (Settings → TV Casually, under About) and what you were doing. If it's about your account, write from the email address you signed in with.

Most answers start in Settings: open the Library tab and tap the gear icon at the top.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. Choose Continue without an account and everything is saved on your phone. Without an account you can keep up to 10 shows, and your library isn't backed up. You can export it from Settings → Your data; if you lose the phone or uninstall the app without an export, it's gone.

A free account removes the limit, backs your library up and syncs it across your devices. Everything you saved as a guest moves into the account when you sign in. Sign in with Apple, Google or a link by email.

How does sync work?

Every change is saved on your phone instantly and sent to your account in the background, so the app works offline and catches up when you're back online. Your other devices pick up the changes the next time they sync. If you change the same show or episode on two devices, the change you made last wins.

Settings shows the sync status under Account. If it says Changes not synced for a long time, check your connection, then write to us.

I got a new phone. How do I get my shows back?

Install TV Casually and sign in the same way you did before (Apple, Google or email). Your library comes back with the first sync. If you never made an account, the library was only on the old phone.

If you signed in by email, the email has a link and a 6-digit code. If the link opens on a different device than the app, type the code instead.

Can I import my history from Trakt, TV Time or a spreadsheet?

Yes: Settings → Your data → Import from another app. It needs an account (free). Choose the export file or files from the other app:

  • Trakt: the data export (a zip of JSON files).
  • TV Time: the "export my data" files or the GDPR data export (a zip of CSV files).
  • CSV: a TV Casually export, or a simple file with a title (or a TVmaze, TheTVDB or IMDb id), season, episode and the date you watched it.

You'll see what was found before anything is added, and you confirm shows that were matched only by title. Shows, watched episodes and their dates, and Trakt episode ratings are imported. Movies, specials and rewatches aren't. Shows already in your library are left as they are, so importing the same file twice changes nothing.

How do I export my history?

Settings → Your data → Export as JSON or Export as CSV. The file has every show in your library with its status, and every episode you've watched and when, with TVmaze, IMDb and TheTVDB ids so other apps can read it. The JSON file also has your ratings, comments, rewatches, settings and achievements. A guest can export their library and watch history from the same menu; that export is built on the phone.

Reminders don't arrive

Turn them on in Settings → Reminders and allow notifications when your phone asks (or in the phone's own settings). Reminders come for shows on your Watching list, when an episode airs, or in the morning if no time is published. When you're signed in, they keep coming even if you don't open the app for a while.

What is TV Casually Plus?

An optional subscription, monthly or yearly, that adds advanced statistics, fuller recaps, Smart Lists, themes, a customizable Watching screen, finer reminders and rewatch tracking. Tracking itself is free and unlimited. Get it in Settings → Get TV Casually Plus.

I have Plus but the app doesn't show it

Plus belongs to your TV Casually account, not to the phone. Make sure you're signed in to the account you bought it with, then use Settings → Restore purchases. If the app says the subscription belongs to another TV Casually account, sign in to that account instead. Still stuck? Write to us with roughly when you bought it.

How do I cancel Plus or get a refund?

Subscriptions are managed by the store: on iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions (or Settings → Manage subscription in TV Casually). Plus continues until the end of the period you paid for.

Refunds are decided by Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google (Google Play refunds). For Google Play purchases, you can also contact us about a refund request. Deleting your TV Casually account doesn't cancel a subscription.

Why isn't my comment showing?

Comments are checked before they're published, which can take an hour or more. Until then you see it marked Submitted for review. If it says Not published, it didn't pass the community rules. If you think that's a mistake, write to us.

How do I report or block someone's comment?

On the episode, open Comments, tap ⋯ on the comment and choose Report…, then a reason. The comment disappears for you and is reviewed again. You can also block the person who wrote it, so you no longer see their comments. For anything urgent, write to us.

A show's information is wrong or missing

Show and episode information comes from TVmaze, a community-run TV database. Corrections made there usually reach TV Casually within a day. If something still looks wrong, tell us.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete account. Everything is explained on Deleting your account, including how to ask without the app.
